Babolat Stima Spirit Padel Racket

£100.99

The Babolat Stima Spirit padel racket is a very light, soft round racket for players who want comfort and easy swings: 335 g with a 36 mm profile, a fibreglass face over a carbon frame and an EVA core. It is the fibreglass sibling of the carbon-faced Stima Energy, and Babolat's pitch is comfort and effortless power with freedom of movement.

Padelful scores the sweet spot 8.9, rebound 9 and manoeuvrability 8.7, but power only 5.9. That is the honest picture: an easy racket that helps you keep the ball in play and does little to finish the point.

It is the 2023 edition, so it is an outgoing racket rather than a current one.

What the Stima Spirit is

Babolat designed the Stima line as its light racket range, and Babolat says the Spirit is among its lightest. Micro-perforations on the surface, which Babolat calls MicroPerf, take weight out and enlarge the sweet spot, and the soft materials are meant to reduce arm fatigue. The grip it recommends is XCEL Gel, and the player type is Counter Striker, meaning a controlled, patient style.

Two sources differ a little. Babolat lists 335 g give or take 10; Padelful gives 325 to 345. Padelful points the racket at intermediates, while a database of Babolat's range lists it for beginners and intermediates, so we describe it as comfortable for both.

How the Stima Spirit plays

Soft, quick and forgiving. Padelful reports a durable build and a balanced weight that supports stable swings, and the numbers back up the feel: a generous sweet spot, rebound at 9 and handling at 8.7. Off-centre hits still come back with some life.

Power is the cost. At 5.9 it is the lowest score on the card, which means you supply the pace. A reviewer also warns it may be hard for complete novices, presumably because a very light racket gives little feedback when your technique is still forming.

If you like to build points from the back and keep rallies long, it fits. If you hit hard, it will feel as if the ball is leaving a trampoline with nothing behind it.

Stima Spirit or Stima Energy?

The Stima Energy is the same round shape and 335 g weight with a Carbon Flex face. Padelful gives it better control (8.6 against 7.7) and more power (6.8 against 5.9), with a similar sweet spot, and it costs more. If you can afford the Energy and want a bit more from the racket, take it; if you want the softest, easiest option, the Spirit does that job.

The Stima Vita is the entry racket in the line, and the Dyna Energy is the teardrop sister for players who want more attacking shape. The fibreglass Dyna Spirit is its teardrop twin. The Spirit is the middle step.

Who should skip the Stima Spirit

Anyone who hits the ball hard or wants spin and bite. A 5.9 for power and a fibreglass face do not reward a big swing, so stronger players should look at the best padel racket for intermediate players list for something with more behind it. Our control padel rackets page has round options with firmer, more precise carbon faces.

Not for you if

You are a strong hitter or a complete beginner. Padelful scores power 5.9 and warns novices may find it hard to learn on. The padel racket range has firmer and heavier alternatives.

Setting up a Stima Spirit

A light racket benefits from a cushioned grip. Babolat recommends XCEL Gel, and an overgrip such as the Babolat VS overgrip adds tack for sweaty hands; our padel grips page explains the choice. Frame tape from the racket protector range is worth fitting before the first match.

Pair it with a tube of Babolat Court balls, since a low-power racket needs lively balls, and see the padel balls page for how fast they fade. The padel bags and padel shoes pages complete the kit, and our guide to choosing a padel racket explains shape and balance.
