Volkl Leather Grip for Rackets

£24.95

The Volkl leather grip is a calfskin replacement grip, with adhesive backing and finishing tape, that goes on the bare handle instead of a synthetic base grip. Retailers describe a slightly tacky surface, a raised contour and a firmer, more communicative feel, and say it is heavier than synthetic grips.

It's a tennis grip, and a niche choice on a padel handle: players who like the old-school feel of leather, and who don't mind the weight it adds in the hand.

What a leather grip is like

Tennis Warehouse describes calfskin with a slightly tacky surface and a raised contour for shock absorption and slip resistance; Tennis Express adds a firmer feel with more feedback and adhesive backing with finishing tape. Leather weighs more than a synthetic grip, so it moves the balance of the racket a little towards your hand.

Reviews are mostly positive, though one buyer found an older brown grip dry and poorly adhered. We found no thickness, length or weight figures, and our listing doesn't state a colour; black and brown are both sold elsewhere.

Card of what retailers say about the Volkl leather grip, such as calfskin, firm feel and adhesive backing, and what is not found, such as thickness and weight

Leather or a modern synthetic base grip?

Leather rewards players who like direct feedback and don't need cushioning. A synthetic base grip is lighter and usually cheaper, and our padel grips range has overgrips to go on top. Solinco's Dura-Cush is the cushioned, synthetic alternative.

Not for you if

You want a light handle on an already head-heavy racket, or you wear gloves. Leather adds weight and can feel unforgiving to a soft hand.

Fitting it

Strip the old grip, clean off residue, then wrap the leather from the butt cap upwards with a small overlap and finish with the tape. Fit a racket protector while the racket is bare, and see the padel racket range for frames to match.

Volkl Leather Grip for Rackets: questions people ask

Is the Volkl leather grip a replacement grip or an overgrip?

A replacement grip. It goes on the bare handle in place of the original base grip.

Is the Volkl leather grip heavier than a synthetic grip?

Retailers say yes. Leather weighs more, so it moves the balance slightly towards your hand.

Can I use the Volkl leather grip on a padel racket?

It is sold for tennis, but a replacement grip is the same idea on a padel handle. Check the thickness against your grip size.

What colour is the Volkl leather grip we sell?

Retailers sell black and brown. Our listing does not say which, so ask before ordering.
