Ariv V4 Undergrip for Padel

£17.50

The Ariv V4 undergrip is an adhesive padel undergrip: an extra cushioning layer that goes under your overgrip, which the brand says absorbs an average of 70 per cent of the vibration from ball impact. Sellers describe it as very light, made of organic material and good for six to eight months at about four matches a week.

Those figures are Ariv's own claims, repeated by the shops that sell it. We found no independent test, and sellers disagree on the weight, so read the numbers as the brand's word.

What an undergrip is

An undergrip is a thin extra layer that sits beneath the overgrip. It is not a replacement for the base grip or for the overgrip you change every few weeks: it adds cushioning and, in Ariv's case, a claim about damping. The V4 is adhesive, so it is stuck on the handle and the overgrip is wrapped over it.

Handle thickness changes when you add a layer. If your racket already feels fat in the hand, an undergrip will make it fatter. Our padel grips page has the thin and thick overgrips to balance against.

The 70 per cent claim, and what we could verify

Ariv says the V4 absorbs an average of 70 per cent of vibration, and sellers repeat it word for word. They also say it is tacky, made of organic material and certified by professional players, and one seller adds that it is approved by medical specialists. We found no test method, no independent result and no way to check any of that.

Weight is the clearest sign the copy has been passed around: one seller says 4 g and another lists 0.04 kg, which is 40 g. Size and thickness are not published. If you have elbow or wrist pain, a physio and a racket that suits your swing will do more than any grip layer.

Who should skip it

Anyone who wants proof before spending, anyone whose handle is already thick and anyone with a racket that is simply the wrong weight or balance. A softer racket and a lighter swing change vibration far more than a layer under the grip. Fit a racket protector, pair it with an overgrip and keep fresh padel balls on hand. Our guide to choosing a padel racket and the padel racket range cover the racket side.

Not for you if

You want independent evidence for the 70 per cent figure, or you already find your handle too thick. The claims come from Ariv, and no test is published.
