Babolat Air Crest 2026 Padel Racket

£58.63

The Babolat Air Crest is Babolat's soft entry teardrop: a light, forgiving racket for beginners and improving club players who want quick hands at the net and a big sweet spot. Padelful lists a fibreglass face over a soft EVA core, a carbon and fibreglass hybrid frame and a weight of about 345 g, and scores its sweet spot, manoeuvrability and rebound at 9.5 each.

The price of all that is pace. Power scores 6, control 7.5, and the racket does not pretend otherwise. You win points with it by putting the ball in the right place, not by hitting through it.

One honest gap: we could not find Babolat's own spec sheet for the Crest, so weight and materials here come from a single independent review. Anything unpublished, such as balance and thickness, is left out rather than guessed.

What the Babolat Air Crest is, and what we could not confirm

Crest belongs to Babolat's entry end of the Air line, alongside the Origin and below the Vertuo, Veron and Viper. It is made for players who want to enjoy the game before they worry about the equipment, and everything about the spec points that way: a soft core, a glass face and a light frame.

Here is what we know and where it comes from. Padelful lists the shape as teardrop, the weight as 345 (it does not state units, and grams is the only sensible reading), the core as soft EVA, the face as fibreglass and the frame as a carbon and fibreglass hybrid. Retail copy calls it light, comfortable and extremely easy to handle. We could not find a Babolat spec sheet or a published balance or thickness, so we do not quote them.

How the Air Crest plays

The review is clear on the strengths: the ball exits easily on defensive shots, the sweet spot is large and forgiving, and the hands are quick on volleys. A rushed lob or a block from a poor position comes back deep, which is exactly what a developing player needs.

The weaknesses are just as clear. Power is limited for hard smashes, the response is springy on short balls and asks for soft hands, and there is little bite on the vibora. If you want to finish points with the racket, this is not the one; if you want to stay in rallies, it is.

Padelful suggests it for intermediate club players who build points through consistency and positioning, while retail copy aims it at beginners and intermediates. Both readings agree on the type of player: someone who wins by being steady.

Where it sits in the Babolat Air line

The Air family is Babolat's teardrop range, and it climbs in price and stiffness. Alongside the Crest sits the Air Origin, with the softer Air Vertuo 2.6 above, the carbon-faced Air Veron 2.6 and the firm Air Viper 2.6. If you would rather have a round head to start with, Babolat's Counter Origin is the equivalent first racket, and the Counter Crest is the Crest sibling with a little more power and control on Padelful's scores.

Who should skip the Air Crest

Players who already hit hard. A soft glass racket with a power score of 6 will feel dead behind a good smash, and you will outgrow it quickly. The best padel racket for intermediate players page lists rackets with more to give, and the diamond padel rackets page has frames for attackers.

Not for you if

You want to finish points with a smash or generate spin on the vibora. Padelful notes limited power and little bite on the vibora. Beginners looking at the wider field should also read our best padel racket for beginners page, or the cheap padel racket page if budget leads.

Getting an Air Crest match-ready

Add a tacky overgrip such as the Babolat VS overgrip to adjust the grip size and feel; our padel grips page explains replacement grips against overgrips. Fit frame tape from the racket protector range, because new players scrape the glass more often than they expect.

Fresh balls help a soft racket feel lively, so a tube of Babolat Court balls is a sensible start, or a dozen if you play weekly, and the padel balls page explains how quickly they fade. The padel bags page has something to carry it in, and our padel shoes page covers courts with sand-filled turf.

For the wider picture, the full padel racket range is on one page, and our guide to choosing a padel racket explains shape and balance before you spend.

Babolat Air Crest 2026 Padel Racket: questions people ask

Is the Babolat Air Crest a good beginner racket?

It is a sound improver racket. Padelful and retailers describe a soft, light teardrop with a large sweet spot and quick hands, with limited power. Complete beginners may prefer a round racket such as the Counter Origin.

What is the difference between the Air Crest and the Air Origin?

Both are soft fibreglass teardrops at about 345 g. Padelful describes the Crest with a soft EVA core and a hybrid frame; Babolat's sheet for the Origin lists EVA and a fibreglass face. They sit in the same entry bracket, and we have no test that separates them.

How heavy is the Babolat Air Crest?

Padelful lists 345, with no stated unit, which we read as grams. We could not find a figure on Babolat's own sheet, so treat it as approximate and expect a tolerance of about 10 g.

Is the Air Crest powerful?

No. Padelful scores power 6 and notes limited power for hard smashes. It is built for forgiveness and handling, not pace.

Is the Air Crest a teardrop or a round racket?

Padelful lists it as a teardrop. Retail copy describes a large sweet spot, which is the same impression a softer, lighter teardrop gives.

What replaces the Air Crest when I improve?

The Air Vertuo, Air Veron and Air Viper are the steps up within Babolat's teardrop range, with firmer feels and more power at each rung.
