Drop Shot Axion Attack Junior Padel Racket

£58.63

The Drop Shot Axion Attack Junior padel racket is a kids' racket from the Axion Attack line: fibreglass faces over a soft EVA core, a smooth surface and a listed weight in the mid-300s of grams. One retailer aims it at children of 8 and up.

It is not as light as most junior rackets. Listings range from 320 to 355 g and disagree on its shape and level, which is why we suggest choosing by your child's height and strength and not by the age on the box.

What the Axion Attack Junior is

The Axion Attack is Drop Shot's adult attacking racket line, and the Junior carries the name and a cut-down build: fibreglass faces, a soft EVA core and a smooth finish. One retailer lists a 36 mm profile. That is a forgiving recipe for a child, with no carbon to transmit shock and a core that takes the sting out of mishits.

The weight is the part to read carefully. Zona de Padel gives 345 to 355 g, while Esprit Padel Shop lists 320 to 345 g in one place and 330 to 350 g in another. That makes it heavier than the Piton Junior and the Alioth Junior at the top end, so it suits a taller or stronger child more than a small one.

Chart of junior racket weight ranges in grams: Drop Shot Axion Attack Junior about 320 to 355 g against the Piton Junior and Alioth Junior at 310 to 330 g

Diamond or teardrop, beginner or intermediate?

Zona de Padel lists a diamond head and an intermediate level. Esprit Padel Shop describes a teardrop-style shape with medium balance and a beginner level. Both can be true of the same racket in a loose sense, since a junior racket with a slightly top-weighted head sits between the two, but we cannot settle it from listings.

For a beginner, the safer picks are the lighter, rounder rackets: the Piton Junior or the Alioth Junior. The Axion Attack Junior is the one to look at if your child is already hitting with some power and wants an attacking feel.

Who should skip the Axion Attack Junior

Small or very young children and complete beginners, who will find a 330 to 355 g racket tiring. A lighter junior from the kids padel rackets page will be easier to swing. If your child is nearly adult size, the beginner padel rackets page lists full-size starters.

Not for you if

Your child is small, young or brand new to padel, or you need the weight and shape confirmed before buying. Listings range from 320 to 355 g and disagree on shape.

Setting up a junior racket

Fit a racket protector straight away, because children drop rackets and clatter the fence. A tacky overgrip from the padel grips range helps small hands, softer padel balls are kinder to young arms and proper padel shoes matter on turf. A padel bag keeps it all together.

Our guide to choosing a padel racket explains weight and balance, and the full padel racket range has adult options.

Drop Shot Axion Attack Junior Padel Racket: questions people ask

What age is the Drop Shot Axion Attack Junior for?

One retailer says 8 and up. Because the weight runs to 355 g on some listings, choose by your child's height and strength as well as age.

How heavy is the Drop Shot Axion Attack Junior?

Listings range from 320 to 355 g: Zona de Padel says 345 to 355 g and Esprit Padel Shop gives 320 to 345 g or 330 to 350 g.

Is the Axion Attack Junior made of carbon?

No. Retailers list fibreglass faces and an EVA Soft core, which is softer and cheaper than carbon.

Is the Axion Attack Junior a beginner racket?

What comes after the Axion Attack Junior?

A full-size beginner or intermediate adult racket once your child is tall and strong enough to swing one comfortably.
