Siux Optimus 5 Padel Racket

£49.99

The Siux Optimus 5 is Siux's soft, hard-wearing fibreglass racket for players who want control and comfort more than power: a fibreglass face and frame over an EVA core, with a medium-soft feel and a weight reported at 355 to 375 g. Padelful scores its control 8.1, power 7.5 and sweet spot 7.1, and recommends it for intermediates, players who value comfort, and anyone with elbow trouble.

It is the 2023 edition and sits outside the carbon-faced Pro and Elite lines, so it is Siux's value end rather than its performance end.

We could not read Siux's own sheet, and the sources disagree on shape and weight, so we show those as reported rather than certain.

Who the Siux Optimus 5 is for

People who want a racket that is easy on the body. Padelful singles out the soft feel and the vibration-absorbing core as gentle on the arm, which suits players with elbow problems, and notes that the fibreglass construction is durable and resists wear. That combination makes it a sensible choice for a club player who plays often and does not want to replace a racket every season.

Retailers aim it at beginners and Padelful's Spanish review at intermediates. Both are fair: it is forgiving enough for a new player and controlled enough for an improving one, as long as you are not expecting power.

How the Optimus 5 plays

Control is the highest of its scores at 8.1, and the balance supports precision and stability on volleys and blocks. The medium-soft feel takes the sting out of contact, and the racket forgives mishits better than a stiff carbon frame would, though Padelful's sweet spot score of 7.1 is not generous.

Power is average at 7.5 and rebound is 7.8. This is a racket you swing through, not one that adds speed for you. If you hit the ball cleanly, it rewards you with accurate placement; if you do not, it tells you more gently than a hard racket would.

Two things to keep in mind about sources. Padelful lists the shape as round, while Padel Nuestro calls it a hybrid with an intermediate balance, and our own catalogue has it as a hybrid with a low balance. Weight is 355 to 375 g on both Padelful and Padel Nuestro. We give ranges and name the source where they differ.

Optimus 5 or Optimus 5 Air?

The Optimus 5 Air is the lighter version: Padelful lists it at 340 to 360 g with a medium EVA core. Its manoeuvrability is higher (8.0 against 7.6) and its power lower (6.6 against 7.5), and the sweet spot is the same at 7.1. The Air suits lighter players and anyone who wants quicker hands; the standard racket gives a touch more pace.

If you are choosing between them for a child or a lighter adult, take the Air, or the junior-sized Beat Kid 2 for a younger child. For a general club player, the standard racket is the more balanced choice.

What you would gain by stepping up

To see the gap, put the Optimus next to Siux's round flagship. The Trilogy Pro has a 24K carbon face and scores 9.7 for control and 9.0 for sweet spot on Padelful, with the same power score as the Optimus (7.5). What you pay for is precision, handling and a large sweet spot; what you give up is the soft, forgiving feel.

Siux's own step up is the 3K Evoque 3K, though it has no independent test. A middle route is Babolat's entry Counter Origin, another round, soft first racket, if you want to compare brands before you buy.

Who should skip the Optimus 5

Players who want power or a lively, springy face. A medium-soft fibreglass racket with a 7.5 for power and 7.8 for rebound will feel muted behind a smash, and most improving players will outgrow it. The best padel racket for intermediate players page lists rackets with more in reserve, and the best padel racket for beginners page lists the alternatives at the same level.

Not for you if

You want pace, bite on the vibora or a big sweet spot. Padelful scores the sweet spot 7.1, and a soft fibreglass face gives little bite. The control padel rackets page lists rounder carbon rackets that do more.

Setting up an Optimus 5

A soft racket benefits from a tacky grip. A tacky overgrip such as the Head Pro overgrip keeps control as the face absorbs pace, and our padel grips page explains when to replace instead. Frame tape from the racket protector range protects the head, though fibreglass is more forgiving of knocks than carbon.

Fresh balls matter most for a racket that adds little speed, so a tube of Bullpadel Next balls is a sensible companion, and the padel balls page explains how quickly pressure fades. The padel bags page has somewhere to keep it, and sand-dressed courts call for a pair from our padel shoes page.

For the wider picture, the Siux padel rackets page covers the whole line, the full padel racket range is on one page, and our guide to choosing a padel racket explains shape and balance.

Siux Optimus 5 Padel Racket: questions people ask

Is the Siux Optimus 5 a round racket or a hybrid?

Padelful lists it as round, and Padel Nuestro describes a hybrid with an intermediate balance. Sources vary, so treat the shape as round-to-hybrid, with a control-oriented feel.

Is the Siux Optimus 5 good for tennis elbow?

It is one of the better choices. Padelful notes that the soft feel and the vibration-absorbing core are gentle on the arm, and it recommends the racket for players with elbow concerns.

What is the difference between the Optimus 5 and the Optimus 5 Air?

The Air is lighter (340 to 360 g on Padelful) with a medium EVA core. It scores higher for manoeuvrability and lower for power. The sweet spot score is the same at 7.1.

How heavy is the Siux Optimus 5?

Padelful and Padel Nuestro both list 355 to 375 g. Siux does not publish a single weight for most rackets, so treat it as a range.

Is the Siux Optimus 5 durable?

Padelful highlights the fibreglass frame and face as durable and resistant to wear, which is a point in its favour against carbon rackets that can chip.

Is the Optimus 5 still current?

It is the 2023 edition and an outgoing racket. Siux's current tiers are named Pro, Elite, Astra and Beat.
