Y1 CX3 Padel Racket (2025)

£91.20

The Y1 CX3 padel racket is the middle of UK brand Y1's round range: a 3K carbon face with a cork layer behind it, a firmer PrecisionTech EVA core and an even balance, made for improving players who want more precision than a fibreglass starter without giving up control.

Y1 itself pitches it as the upgrade from the CX1. Same round shape, same weight, a noticeably more serious build.

The upgrade from the CX1

If you've had a Y1 CX1 for a season and started to want your shots to go exactly where you aim them, this is the racket Y1 expects you to move to. The shape stays round, so the sweet spot stays central and generous. What changes is the feel: the fibreglass face becomes 3K carbon, the soft AirSpring core becomes PrecisionTech EVA, and the head-light balance evens out.

Above it sits the CX12, which keeps the same core and balance but moves to a 12K TeXtreme face for advanced players.

Why there is cork in the face

Carbon makes a face stiffer and more precise, and it also passes more of a hit's shock into your hand. Y1's answer on the CX3 is a cork layer under the 3K carbon, which the listing says keeps the face stiff for precision while cutting harsh vibration. Cork is a natural damping material, so it's a sensible thing to put between a stiff face and your hand.

The core is PrecisionTech EVA, which the listing calls a "firmer 13-15" core and places between power and soft touch. The CX1's AirSpring core is listed as 10-13, so the numbers look like a firmness range, higher meaning firmer, though Y1 doesn't define the scale anywhere we could find.

CX3 against other step-up rackets

The CX3 lives in a crowded part of the market: round or teardrop rackets with a first carbon face, aimed at players leaving their beginner racket behind. Here's how it sits next to its Y1 siblings and the teardrop alternative.

Who it suits

Improvers and intermediate players who value placement and touch, and anyone who wants a carbon face without the sting carbon can bring. It belongs with our control padel rackets and among the cheap padel rackets that still give you a carbon face.

Not for you if

You want a racket to hit through people at the net. A round, even-balanced racket with a damped face is built for control, not raw power; a diamond such as Y1's AX3 suits that game better. Complete beginners will find the softer CX1 easier, and the full padel racket range covers every level in between.

Kit to go with it

A padel racket protector keeps the carbon frame edge intact through the inevitable floor scrapes, and an overgrip from our padel grip range keeps the perforated grip working longer.

Pick up fresh padel balls, a padel bag to keep it out of the heat and padel shoes for the turf. Y1's racket cover fits it, and our guide on how to choose a padel racket explains how shape and balance change what you feel.

Y1 CX3 Padel Racket (2025): questions people ask

Is the Y1 CX3 the same as the Y1 RX3?

No. Both have a 3K carbon face, but the CX3 is round with a cork damping layer and an even balance, while the RX3 is a teardrop. C is round and R is teardrop in Y1's naming.

Is the Y1 CX3 a good racket for intermediate players?

Yes. It is pitched as the step up from the beginner CX1, with a carbon face for precision, a cork layer for comfort and an even balance that suits players who control the point.

Y1 CX3 or CX1: should I upgrade?

Upgrade when you want more precision than the CX1's fibreglass face gives. The CX3 keeps the round shape and weight but adds 3K carbon, cork damping and a firmer core.

Does the cork layer in the Y1 CX3 wear out?

It sits inside the face, so it is protected from direct wear. Like any racket, the core and layers slowly lose some liveliness with heavy use, and the frame edge is what needs protecting day to day.

How heavy is the Y1 CX3?

Padel Shack lists 355 to 375g, with 365g as the nominal weight, before an overgrip.
