Y1 CX12 Padel Racket (2026)

£153

The Y1 CX12 padel racket is UK brand Y1's round control racket for good players: a 12K TeXtreme carbon face over a PrecisionTech EVA core, with an even balance, made for advanced players who win points on placement, patience and spin rather than raw smash power.

Round rackets carry a beginner reputation they don't deserve. This one is pitched at the other end of the club ladder.

A round racket for advanced players

A round head keeps the sweet spot central and the weight close to the middle, which is why so many first rackets are round. Good players choose them for a different reason: control. When you're steering the ball into the side wall or dropping it at an opponent's feet, a centred sweet spot and an even balance give you a predictable response every time. Padel Shack's listing calls the CX12 an elite-level, control-oriented racket for advanced players wanting accuracy, stability and feedback.

Where it differs from Y1's beginner CX1 is almost everything except the shape and weight. The face moves from fibreglass to carbon, the core from AirSpring EVA to PrecisionTech EVA, and the balance from head-light to even.

Comparison of the Y1 CX12 and CX1 round padel rackets: face, core, balance, surface, level and weight

What the CX12 is made of

The face is coloured 12K TeXtreme carbon twill, using spread-tow, thin-ply carbon: flat ribbons of fibre rather than round bundles, which Y1 says gives a faster rebound and less distortion on impact. It's finished with two surface treatments for grip and spin. The core is PrecisionTech EVA, labelled "13-15" in the description without explanation, and the face is drilled in Y1's OptiFlow pattern. Weight is listed at 355 to 375g, 365g nominal.

The frame is where the listing argues with itself. The spec field gives 30% carbon and 70% fibreglass; the description says 100% carbon double tube. Padel Shack's AX18 listing carries the same 30/70 spec field, while the AX12 and AX3 say 100% carbon throughout, so it may be a template error on some listings. We can't confirm which is right.

Who it suits

Advanced club and league players who play the long game: patient defenders, left-side players who build the point for a partner, and anyone who's moved past the attacking diamond phase and wants precision back. It sits with our control padel rackets and advanced padel rackets.

Not for you if

You want free power on the smash; a round, even racket asks you to supply the pace. And if you're new, the carbon face will feel firm and unforgiving compared with Y1's fibreglass CX1 or the beginner rackets in the main padel racket range.

Setting it up

On the way to court a padded Y1 cover keeps it scuff-free. Protect the frame with a padel racket protector, and keep a fresh overgrip from our padel grip range on it; control players feel a slipping grip before anyone else does.

Fresh padel balls make the most of a rough, spin-friendly face. A padel bag with a thermal pocket protects the carbon, padel shoes keep your footing, and Y1's own racket cover matches. Our guide on how to choose a padel racket explains round against teardrop and diamond.

Y1 CX12 Padel Racket (2026): questions people ask

Is the Y1 CX12 the same as the Y1 RX12?

No. Both have a 12K carbon face, but the CX12 is a round control racket and the RX12 a teardrop. In Y1's naming, C is round and R is teardrop.

Is a round racket like the Y1 CX12 suitable for advanced players?

Yes. The CX12 is pitched at advanced players: the round head and even balance give a predictable, central response that suits placement and control, while the 12K carbon face adds crispness.

Y1 CX12 or CX1: which one do I need?

The CX1 is a fibreglass, head-light beginner racket. The CX12 is a 12K carbon, even-balanced racket for advanced players. Same shape, very different feel.

How do I protect the Y1 CX12?

Fit a frame protector, keep the racket in a covered bag between sessions and away from car heat, and replace the overgrip when it loses tack.

What is the Y1 CX12 frame made of?

The listing contradicts itself: the spec field says 30% carbon and 70% fibreglass, the description says 100% carbon double tube. Both agree on the double-tube construction.
