Y1 AX18 Padel Racket (2026)

£252

The Y1 AX18 padel racket is the flagship of Y1's 2026 diamond range: an 18K carbon face over the brand's EV50 ProFoam core, on a double-tube BiFusion frame, made for advanced players who win points overhead and want a home-grown alternative to the big Spanish brands.

Y1 calls it its most powerful racket. The listings agree on most of the build, though not on where the weight sits, and we'll come to that.

The top of the AX range

Y1's diamonds step up by face. The AX3 carries 3K carbon twill, the AX12 a 12K TeXtreme face, and the AX18 the 18K weave, described by Padel Shack as aluminised carbon laid at 45 degrees and by both retailers as TeXtreme spread-tow, thin-ply carbon. Mould, core and nominal weight stay the same across all three: the AX diamond, EV50 ProFoam EVA and about 365g.

Spread-tow carbon is woven from flat ribbons rather than round bundles, which leaves a smoother, tighter face. Y1 pairs it with a dual surface it calls Texture Control and 3D Control Face, both there to add grip on the ball for spin, plus its OptiFlow hole pattern and a perforated VibraControl grip.

Head-heavy or mid? Reading three listings

The balance is the one thing nobody agrees on. Padel Shack's spec fields say head-heavy; the description on the same page says mid balance point; Padelspeed says mid. For a diamond pitched as Y1's power racket, head-heavy is the more likely truth, but the honest answer is that the paperwork contradicts itself.

The frame has a quirk too. Padel Shack lists the AX18's frame as 30% carbon and 70% fibreglass, while its AX12 listing says 100% carbon. That's the opposite of what you'd expect from a flagship. The same retailer's CX12 listing shows the same 30/70 spec field while its own description says 100% carbon, which suggests a template error rather than a real difference, but we can't confirm it either way.

Comparison of how Padel Shack spec fields, the Padel Shack description and Padelspeed describe the Y1 AX18 padel racket balance, face and frame

AX18 or AX12?

On paper the two are close relatives: same mould, same EV50 core, same 365g. The AX18 brings the 18K face and the extra surface texturing; the AX12 is listed with a full-carbon frame and costs less. If you want the most spin-friendly face Y1 makes, choose the AX18. If you'd rather put the difference towards balls and a bag, the AX12 gives up surprisingly little on the spec sheet.

Who it suits

Advanced and competitive players with a fast, clean swing who finish at the net and want a diamond with a spin-friendly face. It belongs among our advanced padel rackets and the diamond padel rackets. If you'd like the same 18K face in a more forgiving shape, Y1's RX18 is the teardrop version.

We found no independent test of the AX18. That's common for a smaller brand, but it does mean the claims about power and control are Y1's own.

Not for you if

You're an intermediate still finding the sweet spot, or you want a racket backed by test scores. A diamond with a stiff carbon face punishes mishits, and every figure here comes from retailer listings. The wider padel racket range has well-reviewed alternatives at every level.

Kit for a flagship

Protect the top corners with a padel racket protector from day one; a diamond's widest point takes the knocks. Keep a fresh overgrip on from our padel grip range, since a slipping hand wastes the spin a textured face can give.

Fresh padel balls suit a rough face best, and a padel bag with a thermal compartment protects the carbon in a hot car. Proper padel shoes finish the kit, and Y1's own racket cover fits if you want it to match. Our guide on how to choose a padel racket covers diamond versus teardrop if you're torn.

Y1 AX18 Padel Racket (2026): questions people ask

Is the Y1 AX18 the same racket as the Y1 RX18?

No. Both use an 18K carbon face, but the AX18 is a diamond and the RX18 is a teardrop. In Y1's naming, A is the diamond mould and R the teardrop.

What level of player is the Y1 AX18 for?

Advanced and competitive players. Retailers pitch it at elite players, and a stiff-faced diamond like this rewards a fast, accurate swing more than it forgives a developing one.

Y1 AX18 or AX12: which should I buy?

They share the mould, EV50 core and 365g weight. The AX18 adds the 18K face and extra surface texture for spin; the AX12 is listed with a full-carbon frame and costs less.

How do I look after a Y1 AX18?

Fit a frame protector across the top corners, change the overgrip when it loses tack, and keep the racket out of hot cars, where carbon resin and EVA foam can suffer.

Is the Y1 AX18 head-heavy?

Listings disagree. Padel Shack's spec field says head-heavy, while its description and Padelspeed say mid balance. The weight is listed as 355 to 375g, 365g nominal.
