Y1 AX12 Padel Racket (2026)

£198

The Y1 AX12 padel racket is the middle of Y1's 2026 diamond range: a 12K carbon face over an EV50 ProFoam core on a double-tube carbon frame, built for advanced players who attack from the net and want more bite than the entry AX3 without going to the stiffest AX18.

Y1 is a UK brand, the padel arm of a company better known for hockey sticks. This is its coral-and-black diamond, and it is a serious racket for a fairly small name.

Reading Y1's names: what AX and 12 mean

Y1 names its rackets like a code. The letters give the shape: AX is the diamond, RX the teardrop, CX the round and JX the junior. The number tells you the face: 1 is fibreglass, 3 is 3K carbon, 12 is 12K and 18 is an 18K aluminised carbon. So the AX12 is a diamond with a 12K carbon face, and its teardrop cousin with the same face is the RX12.

Within the diamond line it sits between two siblings we also stock. The AX3 shares the EV50 ProFoam core and the 365g weight with a 3K carbon twill face, while the AX18 moves up to the 18K aluminised face. The limited-edition pink AXLTD is the other diamond in the family.

What the AX12 is made of

The spec sheet on Padel Shack's listing is more detailed than most at this level. The face is 12K TeXtreme carbon, a spread-tow weave that lies flatter than a standard twill, with a rough finish for spin. Behind it is Y1's EV50 ProFoam EVA, the same core named on the AX3. The frame is 100% carbon in what Y1 calls a BiFusion double-tube construction, meant to return more energy and resist twisting on off-centre hits, and the face is drilled in Y1's OptiFlow hole pattern.

Weight is listed as 355 to 375g, with 365g given as the nominal figure. The balance is where the listing trips over itself: the spec field says head-heavy, while the description talks about a mid balance point. A diamond with this build is usually weighted towards the head, but we'd rather show you both than pick one.

Who should buy the AX12

Advanced club and league players who finish points at the net with flat smashes and bandejas, and who want a diamond that doesn't cost what the tour brands charge. It sits among our diamond padel rackets and advanced padel rackets. There's no independent review of the AX12 that we could find, so you're buying on the spec sheet and Y1's reputation rather than a test score.

Not for you if

You're still building a consistent swing. A diamond's sweet spot sits high and small, and a 12K face gives little back on mishits. The AX3 is the more forgiving Y1 diamond, and a teardrop or round racket from the wider padel racket range will be kinder still.

Setting it up

Diamonds take knocks on the top corners, so fit a padel racket protector before the first session. One overgrip from our padel grip range is plenty; on a racket that may already lean towards the head, extra grip weight in the handle helps a little with balance.

Use fresh padel balls to get the most from the rough face, carry it in a padel bag with a thermal pocket, and wear proper padel shoes for the turf. Y1 also makes its own racket cover if you want everything matching. Still deciding between a diamond and a teardrop? Our guide on how to choose a padel racket sets the trade-offs out.

Y1 AX12 Padel Racket (2026): questions people ask

Is the Y1 AX12 the same as the Y1 RX12?

No. Both have a 12K carbon face, but the AX12 is a diamond and the RX12 is a teardrop. In Y1's naming, A means diamond and R means teardrop.

Is the Y1 AX12 suitable for intermediate players?

Only for strong intermediates who already hit cleanly. The AX12 is pitched at advanced players; the AX3, with the same core and a 3K face, is the more forgiving Y1 diamond.

Y1 AX12 or AX18: what is the difference?

The face. The AX12 uses 12K TeXtreme carbon and the AX18 an 18K aluminised carbon. Both are 365g diamonds aimed at advanced players.

How do I protect the Y1 AX12's frame?

Fit a frame protector along the top corners, which take most of the knocks on a diamond, and store the racket out of hot cars, where carbon and foam can suffer.

How heavy is the Y1 AX12?

The listing gives 355 to 375g, with 365g as the nominal weight, before an overgrip.
