Babolat Super Tape

£4.99

Babolat Super Tape is a frame protection tape for players who want to guard a racket head against scrapes on the floor and glass. It is a thin, elastic adhesive strip, and the X5 pack lists five pre-cut strips, each 49.5 cm long and 3.1 cm wide.

It is not a grip tape, despite the handle on our listing. Retailers market it to tennis and padel players, and it goes on the frame, not the handle.

What it protects

Padel rackets get hit on floors and walls, and the head edge takes the abuse. Retailers describe the tape as protecting the frame from abrasion, mainly at the edge of the head, and as adapting to any racket shape thanks to its elasticity. It is a thin tape rather than a thick bumper, so it adds little to the look.

Padel players tend to ask whether it makes the racket heavier. One retailer says it adds a little weight to the head, but that is retailer copy and we have not measured it. For a thicker finish, our racket protector range lists the other styles.

A frame protector, not a grip. Total is our arithmetic. Strip size from the Central Sports X5 listing, drawn to scale. Pack counts differ by listing.

Fitting it

Clean the frame, apply from the throat of the racket and smooth it round the head without wrinkles. A fresh strip on a new racket such as the Viper Juan Lebron 3.1 keeps the paint longer. The Balancer 3*3 tape is a different product, since it adds weight rather than protection.

Who should skip it

Anyone expecting a grip. For the handle, see the padel grips page and Babolat's My Overgrip. Players who want a clear finish should look at the transparent ProtecPro 2.0 strips instead, and players who already fit a bumper may not need extra tape, and the padel racket range lists rackets that come with their own protection.

Not for you if

You want something for the handle. Super Tape is for the frame, and the listing name in our catalogue says grip by mistake.
