Babolat Syntec Evo Replacement Grip

£6.39

The Babolat Syntec Evo replacement grip is a single cushioned base grip for players who want a softer, more absorbent handle, listed at 2.1 mm thick and 112 cm long. Babolat's UK page agrees with the retailers on those figures, and retailers add a weight of 19 g and micro-perforations that help with sweat.

It is a base grip, so it goes on the bare handle with an overgrip on top, and it comes in white and black under separate codes. Retailers call it slightly thicker than the Syntec Pro.

A thicker, cushioned base

At 2.1 mm the Evo sits at the plush end of Babolat's replacement grips. The Syntec Pro, also sold in a Fluro colourway, is listed at 1.9 mm, and the leather grip at 1.45 mm, so the Evo adds the most to the handle of the grips here, though the Xcel Gel is thicker still. The micro-perforations are there to take up sweat, and retailers differ on how tacky it feels, one calling it tacky and another subtle, with comfort and absorption as the priority.

A retailer says Babolat fits it to its Evo rackets at the factory and that it works as an upgrade on any racket. We cannot confirm either from a Babolat page, and padel handle fit is not stated.

Card of the Babolat Syntec Evo replacement grip: single base grip, 2.1 mm, 112 cm, about 19 g, micro-perforated, white code 670067-101 and black 670067-105

White or black

The two colours carry separate codes, white 670067-101 and black 670067-105, and the White Syntec Evo X1 listing is the white one. Colour is cosmetic. Most of the handle is covered by an overgrip anyway, such as the My Overgrip.

Who should skip it

Players who want a slim handle, since 2.1 mm plus an overgrip adds real bulk, and anyone who only needs a fresh surface rather than a new base. For a quick refresh, an overgrip from the padel grips page is the lighter job, and the padel accessories range has more.

Not for you if

You want a thin handle or a padel-specific grip. This is a 2.1 mm tennis-range base grip with no padel claim from Babolat.
