Babolat Syntec Pro Replacement Grip

£6.47

The Babolat Syntec Pro replacement grip is a single base grip for players who want a firm, fairly slim handle, listed by Babolat at 1.9 mm thick and 110 cm long. It is the middle of Babolat's Syntec range, thinner than the Evo and thicker than the Team.

It goes on the bare handle with an overgrip on top. One UK retailer files it with padel grips, though Babolat does not claim padel fit that we found.

Where the Pro sits in the Syntec range

Babolat sells four Syntec base grips that we list. The Team is the slimmest at 1.5 mm, the Pro is 1.9 mm, the Uptake is listed at 1.9 or 2 mm and the Evo is the thickest at 2.1 mm. Listings say the Pro is about 10 per cent thinner than the older Syntec, and one old listing shows 2.6 mm and 115 cm, which looks like that earlier version.

The Pro is the grip to pick if you want a compact handle but not the thinnest one on offer.

Babolat US, UK and Canada pages and retailer listings. The Uptake page gives 1.9 mm in its text and 2 mm in its table.

Fitting it, and the Fluro

Strip the old grip, clean the handle and wrap from the butt cap with a small overlap. A self-adhesive base grip from Raquex, the Enhance, is fitted the same way. Then add an overgrip such as the My Overgrip, which at 0.55 mm brings the total to about 2.45 mm on paper. The Fluro colourway is the same grip in black and fluo, and the padel grips page explains the layers.

Who should skip it

Players who want cushioning, who should look at the Evo, and anyone on a handle that is already large. See our guide to choosing a padel racket for handle sizing, and the padel accessories range for the rest.

Not for you if

You want a padel-specific grip. Babolat sells the Syntec Pro in its tennis range and claims no padel fit that we found.
