Head Leather Tour Grip

£10.72

The Head Leather Tour grip is a real-leather replacement grip, for players who like the firm, natural feel of leather on the handle and are happy to pay for the weight.

Retailers list 1.5 mm and 29 g, with one outlier at 19 g, in 100% leather with an adhesive backing. It adds tail weight compared with a synthetic grip, which matters on a light padel racket.

What leather changes

Tennis Warehouse says the grip is long enough for all racket handles, and Tennis Express and Tennis Nuts list 1.5 mm and 29 g. Racquet Guys lists 19 g, so we'd treat the weight as roughly 20 to 30 g and check if it matters.

Buyers note leather adds tail weight, which pulls a racket's balance towards the handle. On a padel racket that can make it feel a touch more head-light, and padel handles are short, so trial it before you commit. Leather also takes longer to settle than a synthetic grip.

Not for you if

You sweat heavily or play in the wet. Leather doesn't absorb like a felt-backed synthetic, and it adds weight to the handle.

Table of what retailers list for the Head Leather Tour grip: 100 percent leather, 1.5 millimetres thick, 29 grams at most shops and 19 grams at one, adhesive backing, adds tail weight compared with a synthetic grip, long enough for all racket handles

Fitting it

Peel the backing, start at the butt cap and wind up with a small overlap. Leather is stiff, so warm it between your hands first. Pick up wraps from padel grips if you want a tackier top layer, and see padel accessories and the padel racket range.

Looking after leather

Keep it dry, and expect it to darken and soften with use. A leather grip doesn't like being left wet in a bag, so air it after play. Replace it when it cracks or the adhesive lets go at the edge.
