The part that touches the court is the same idea. HEAD worked with Mondo, the turf maker, on a padel pattern and rubber compound for multi-directional grip on sand-dressed grass, and both 1.5 shoes use it. Both also lace up with a strap across the top to stop the heel lifting when you stop dead, and both have a shank under the arch so the shoe doesn't twist when you push off.

Where they part company is above the sole. The laced Motion Pro 1.5 adds a DynaFoam midsole, Lateral Control+ and a knitted sock construction. The Team has a cushioned midsole HEAD doesn't name, plain Lateral Control and a breathable mesh upper. It also gets Drift Defense in the toe, HEAD's armour for the spot where padel players drag their back foot.

If you play off your back foot a lot, you'll know the toe of a padel shoe goes first. Drift Defense is HEAD's answer on this model, reinforcement in the toe area where the drag happens, and it's one thing the Team has that HEAD doesn't list on the pricier Pro 1.5. The rest of the sole is the Mondo pattern, built for turf with sand on it rather than a hard court.

HEAD doesn't publish a width or weight for the Team 1.5. On HEAD's men's chart a UK 10 is 29 cm and a UK 11 is 30 cm, and on Tennis Warehouse Europe's charts a 28 cm foot is a UK 9 in HEAD, a size smaller than Bullpadel. It suits a player turning up once or twice a week who wants a real padel sole and some support, and a beginner whose first pair of trainers has started sliding on the turf. Keep them for the court, since pavements grind a padel pattern flat. Knock the sand out after each session, loosen the strap and laces before pulling them off, and dry them at room temperature.
