adidas Drive Light Padel Racket 2026

£58.49

The adidas Drive Light padel racket is the lightest, simplest way into padel at adidas: a round racket with a fibreglass face and a soft EVA core, listed at 345 to 360 g. It is for new players, smaller adults and anyone coming back from an arm injury who wants a forgiving racket that is easy to swing.

Every source describes it as a beginner or control racket with a wide, forgiving sweet spot. The sources disagree about its balance, and we say so below instead of quoting a number.

Drive Light or Drive?

The standard adidas Drive is listed at 360 to 375 g; the Drive Light drops that to 345 to 360 g. Everything else is the same: a round head, a fibreglass face and a soft core. The previous season's Drive 3.4 sits in the same standard weight band. Up to 15 g sounds small, and in the hand of a new player it is not. A lighter racket is easier to get up to the ball and kinder to the elbow in the first month.

Take the Light if you are smaller, newer to racket sports, or returning from an injury. Take the standard if you are tall, strong, or coming from tennis and want a little more stability.

What the specs say, and where they disagree

Retailers agree on the materials: a fibreglass face and a soft EVA core, with a round head. adidas Ireland and most shops give the weight as 345 to 360 g, though one listing says 350 to 360 g. adidas's own page also mentions a Smart Holes Lineal pattern, holes in groups of three, for strength.

Balance is where it gets fuzzy. One listing says middle, others say low, with the weight towards the handle. We could not find an adidas figure in millimetres, so we do not give one. For a first racket it matters less than the weight, and every source agrees it is not head-heavy.

How the Drive Light plays

Padelful has not reviewed the Light, but it has reviewed the standard Drive Black and scored it 6.1 overall, noting an easy centred sweet spot, quick handling and limited power. Those numbers carry across to a lighter version of the same racket. Expect a soft, controlled hit where the ball goes where you aim it and not much further.

That is not a criticism. A first racket is meant to teach you to place the ball. When you start to feel the racket holding you back, move on.

Who should buy something else

Anyone who already rallies and wants pace. A soft fibreglass racket tops out quickly, and an improving player will outgrow it inside a season. The intermediate padel racket page lists the next step. For another very light soft racket, the fibreglass Cross It Team Light scores well for handling.

Not for you if

You rally cleanly already, you want power from the back of the court, or you need a published balance figure before you buy. For younger children, the adidas Arrow Hit Junior is lighter still, and more are on our kids padel racket page.

What else you need to start

Put a racket protector on first, since beginners meet the glass often. Add the adidas overgrip 3-pack and look at the full padel grips page. A tube of adidas Speed RX balls and our padel balls guide cover the next bit, then padel shoes for the sand.

adidas Drive Light Padel Racket 2026: questions people ask

Is the adidas Drive Light the same as the adidas Drive?

Same family, different weight. The Light is listed at 345 to 360 g and the standard Drive at 360 to 375 g. Both have a round head, a fibreglass face and a soft core.

Is the adidas Drive Light good for a first padel racket?

Yes. It is light, round and soft, which is what a new player needs. It will not give you power, and you will outgrow it as you improve.

Is the Drive Light suitable for women or juniors?

It is a unisex adult racket and the lighter weight suits smaller adults and teenagers. A retailer picks it as an easy start for women new to padel. Younger children are better on a junior racket.

What is the difference between the Drive Light and the Match Light?

The Drive Light has a round head. The Match Light has a hybrid shape between round and diamond, listed at the same weight. Both are fibreglass beginner rackets.

How long will a beginner racket like the Drive Light last?

With a protector and sensible storage, a couple of seasons. Most players move on after six to twelve months because they want more pace, not because the racket has failed.

Does the adidas Drive Light have a weight system?

The adidas licensee sheet prints a 0 to 11.2 g weight system on its 2026 rackets, but we could not confirm it for the Drive Light. Check the box before planning to tune it.
