adidas Metalbone Youth 3.3 Padel Racket (2024)

£52.76

The adidas Metalbone Youth 3.3 padel racket is the 2024 junior version of the Metalbone: a diamond-shaped racket for children who have got past the first steps and want something with more bite. It has a fibreglass face and frame, a soft EVA core and a weight of about 330 to 345 g, lighter than the adult racket's 345 to 360 g.

It is an unusual junior racket, with a head-heavy balance and a diamond head rather than the round, forgiving shape most children start on. Sources disagree on weight and balance, so this page sets out who says what and who should choose a round junior instead.

What the Metalbone Youth 3.3 is

Zona de Padel lists the Youth 3.3 as a diamond with fibreglass frame and faces, a soft EVA core, a smooth surface and a 38 mm profile. It cites an octagonal structure for rigidity and a balance towards the tip, which it says gives more powerful shots. The listed player type is kid, and the page calls it specifically designed for children, with dimensions and weight that suit them.

It recommends the racket for children who have taken their first steps in padel or want to evolve their game, and gives no age range. The page describes it as an adaptation of the Metalbone adults play, and that listing is now marked deprecated and out of stock, which fits a 2024 racket.

Other listings add a 455 mm length and 485 cm2 surface, and a reference code of ADRK4AA0U0116F. The core is named EVA Soft Performance on one of them.

Table comparing the adidas Metalbone Youth 3.3 with the Arrow Hit Junior on shape, weight, balance, face, core, thickness and season: a head-heavy diamond against a round racket

How heavy is it?

Padel Market and padelpadel.us list 330 to 345 g and a head-heavy balance point of 285 mm. Zona de Padel lists 330 to 350 g. One French shop lists 300 to 315 g, which looks like an outlier, and an Amazon listing that shows 360 g is for the adult racket. We would plan on about 330 to 345 g.

That is lighter than the adult Metalbone and heavier than the round Arrow Hit Junior at 310 to 330 g, so the Youth sits at the heavy end of junior rackets. Combined with the head-heavy diamond shape, it will tire a small or weak player quickly.

Weights from retailers and the All For Padel (adidas licensee) sheets.

Range chart of listed weights for the adidas Metalbone Youth 3.3: 330 to 345 g on most listings, 330 to 350 g on one, an outlier at 300 to 315 g, against the Arrow Hit Junior at 310 to 330 g and the adult Metalbone 3.3 at 345 to 360 g

Who should choose a different junior racket

Most children are better on a round racket, which has a bigger sweet spot and a lower balance. If your child is new to padel or small for their age, start with the kids padel racket guide, which has a height-to-weight chart, and the round Arrow Hit Junior. A head-heavy diamond is a step for confident, stronger juniors.

Not for you if

Your child is new to padel, small or still learning technique. A diamond with a head-heavy balance is harder to control, and the listing is for a 2024 racket that retailers now mark as deprecated.

What goes with a junior racket

Fit a racket protector and a fresh adidas overgrip; the padel grips page has other sizes of grip. Check the padel balls page for the right ball and the padel shoes hub for court shoes, including the Junior Crazyquick.
