Shockout Transparent Racket Protector (Shockskin)

£10.02

The Shockout transparent racket protector is a clear frame guard for players who want the edge of the racket protected without hiding its colours. Retailers describe a resistant, flexible material that guards the frame against knocks and scrapes, with a rough surface.

Our catalogue lists it as Shockskin protection tape in transparent and blue, a name we could not find at retailers, so the page uses the name shops use. No listing gives a size, a thickness or an adhesive, and we found no explanation of the blue.

What the listings say about the clear Shockout protector

Padel Market sells a Shockout transparent rugged protector, and Tienda Padel Point sells the French listing as a transparent Shockout protector. The material is described as resistant and flexible, the job is to take the knocks and scrapes on the frame, and the surface is the rough one the rest of the line uses.

A clear guard is a good choice when you like the paint on your racket and do not want a bold design on top, and it is what you would expect to be used with a new frame. That is the whole story, because nothing is published on length, width, thickness or weight.

Clear protectors compared

Several brands sell a clear guard. The Babolat ProtecPro 2.0 comes as a pack of 15 strips, the Black Crown Ure transparent protector is pre-shaped with a rounded edge, and the adidas Antishock tape is listed at 37 by 3.6 cm in polyurethane. The Softee transparent protector claims a long life.

Only the adidas and Babolat listings give a size or a pack count, so a Shockout guard is the hardest of these to plan around. If you want a patterned version of the same line, there are the Comic protector and the Phantoms protector.

Fitting a clear protector

Wipe the frame dry, start at the top of the head and press the guard down along the edge, smoothing it as you go. A clear guard shows dirt and lifting edges more than a coloured one, so replace it when it starts to peel. It protects the paint from scrapes and will not stop a hard crack.

Who should skip it

Anyone who wants a stated size, thickness or pack count, and players who would rather match a protector to a published fit.

Not for you if

You need measurements or a confirmed pack. The listings give a material and a job and nothing on size, and we could not confirm the Shockskin name.

Shockout Transparent Racket Protector (Shockskin): questions people ask

What is the Shockout Shockskin transparent protector?

We could not find the Shockskin name at retailers. The closest match is the Shockout transparent rugged protector, a clear frame guard in a resistant, flexible material.

Is the Shockout transparent protector tape or a strip?

Listings call it a protector, and the catalogue calls ours protection tape. No format or size is published, so check before you rely on a length.

Does a transparent protector hide the racket paint?

No. A clear guard lets the paint show through, which is the reason to choose one over a printed design.

How is the Shockout transparent protector different from the Comic or Phantoms?

It is the clear version of the same rugged line. The Comic and Phantoms are printed designs.

What does the blue in the Shockskin transparent and blue listing mean?

We found no explanation. Ask before ordering if the colour matters.
