Y1 RX1 Padel Racket

£59.70

The Y1 RX1 padel racket is UK brand Y1's fibreglass teardrop: a flexible fibreglass face over a soft AirSpring EVA core, made for beginners and improvers who want a forgiving racket with a little more push than a round one.

Y1's sales copy calls it an attacking racket for aggressive players. The build says something gentler, and we think the build is the better guide.

A soft teardrop rather than a power racket

Look past the marketing and the RX1 is a classic entry racket. The face is fibreglass, which flexes on contact and gives the ball an easy, springy return. Behind it sits AirSpring EVA, which the listing itself calls a soft core. The frame is a double tube, listed as 30% carbon and 70% fibreglass. All of that adds up to comfort and forgiveness, not raw power.

What the teardrop shape adds, compared with Y1's round CX1, is a sweet spot sitting a little higher on the face and a touch more reach and bite on overheads. That's the honest version of the "attacking" claim: slightly more reward on a smash than a round racket gives, while staying kind on mishits.

Where the RX1 sits: the soft end. Y1 prints a number range next to each core. Its own listings pair the lower range with "soft". Y1 doesn't define the scale. Wording from Padel Shack's listings for each racket.

What the listing gets muddled

Two things don't line up on Padel Shack's page. The spec field gives the balance as even, while the description talks about a higher, mid-high balance point. And the description pitches the racket at aggressive, attacking players, while every material listed points to comfort and a forgiving response.

Our reading: treat it as an even-to-slightly-head-heavy teardrop with a soft feel. If you're a big hitter, it will feel soft in the hand; if you're a newer player, the description's power talk shouldn't put you off.

Who it suits

Beginners who already know they like to get to the net, improvers moving on from a basic round racket, and social players who want comfort first. It sits naturally with our best padel rackets for beginners and the cheap padel rackets. When you outgrow it, Y1's RX3 keeps the teardrop shape and moves to a 3K carbon face.

Not for you if

You genuinely are the aggressive, attacking player the listing describes. A soft fibreglass racket gives back very little of a hard swing; a carbon teardrop or diamond from the main padel racket range will reward that game far better.

Starting out with it

Y1 also sells a junior round racket, the JX1 in blue, and a pink special-edition RX1, the RXLTD. A padel racket protector saves the frame from early knocks off the glass and floor. An overgrip from our padel grip range over the perforated grip adds tack once the original wears smooth.

Add a tube of padel balls, padel shoes with a proper turf sole and a padel bag; Y1's racket cover fits too. If you're still choosing between teardrop and round, our guide on how to choose a padel racket sets out the difference.

Y1 RX1 Padel Racket: questions people ask

Is the Y1 RX1 the same as the Y1 RXLTD?

They are close relatives: both are Y1 teardrops with a fibreglass face and an AirSpring EVA core. The RXLTD is a separate limited-edition listing with its own colourway, so check its page for its exact specification.

Is the Y1 RX1 suitable for beginners?

Yes. Despite the attacking language in its sales copy, the soft AirSpring core and flexible fibreglass face make it a forgiving racket that suits beginners and improvers.

Y1 RX1 or CX1: which suits me better?

Both use fibreglass and AirSpring EVA. Choose the round CX1 for maximum control and an easy swing; choose the teardrop RX1 if you want a little more reward on overheads.

How long will a Y1 RX1 last?

With a frame protector and sensible storage, several seasons of social play. Soft cores lose some liveliness with heavy use, so frequent players may want to move up sooner.

Is the Y1 RX1 head-heavy?

The listing is inconsistent: its spec field says even balance, while the description says mid-high. Expect an even to slightly head-heavy feel.
