Head Edge II Padel Racket, Black

£46.06

The Head Edge II padel racket is one of HEAD's simplest entry rackets: a fibreglass face over foam, a matt black finish with a gold HEAD logo, and a balance that stays out of the head, for beginners and steady club players who want control before power. This is the black edition from the 2025 collection.

Like a few of HEAD's budget rackets, it has no HEAD spec sheet we could find, and the shops that sell it describe it in two different ways. Both versions point at the same kind of racket, so we've set them out and told you what we'd make of it.

Teardrop or round? What the listings say

Padel Nuestro, which files it in its 2025 collection, calls the Edge II Black a teardrop with a medium balance, a fibreglass face, a foam core, medium hardness and a flat, matt surface, and pitches it at beginners and intermediates. PadelScout lists the same and gives a weight of 360 to 375 g. Padelvo, on the other hand, calls it round with a low balance and an EVA core at 360 g, and one Decathlon marketplace listing for the black version agrees on round and low.

Our photo shows a head that's widest a little above the middle, which reads more teardrop than round to us, but we wouldn't argue the point with anyone holding one. What matters more is where the readings overlap: fibreglass, foam, and a balance at or below the middle. That's a control racket, whichever word you prefer for the shape.

Two cards comparing listings for the Head Edge II Black: teardrop, medium balance, foam, 360 to 375 g from Padel Nuestro and PadelScout, and round, low balance, EVA foam, 360 g from Padelvo and Decathlon, with fibreglass and a balance that is not head-heavy common to both

How a control-first fibreglass racket feels

With the weight sitting near the handle, the racket comes up quickly for volleys and doesn't drag the wrist round on a backhand. Fibreglass gives a softer, slightly springy contact than carbon, which helps a new player get the ball back deep without a big swing. The trade-off is pace: you won't win many points with the Edge II's smash, and it isn't trying to make you.

For a first racket, that's the right way round. Most early points are lost on errors, not won with winners, and a racket that forgives a late contact keeps rallies going long enough to learn. Our best padel racket for beginners guide makes the same case at more length.

The Edge II next to HEAD's other entry rackets

HEAD's entry shelf is crowded, and the differences are mostly balance and foam. The Evo Speed is lighter at 350 g with a softer foam. The Vibe 2025 is also 350 g but uses livelier Power Foam and an oversize head. If you've started swinging hard and want the racket to help, the head-heavy Concord is the opposite of the Edge II. All of them are on our cheap padel rackets list.

Not for you if

You want a racket that adds pace to your smash, you need an exact weight before you buy, or you already play like an intermediate attacker. A head-heavy or carbon racket will suit you better.

Starting kit to go with it

Fibreglass rackets chip if they meet the glass at speed, so put a strip from the racket protector range on the top of the frame on day one. A thin overgrip from padel grips builds the handle up if it feels narrow. Pick a forgiving club ball from padel balls, and a pair from padel shoes, because trainers skate on sanded turf. HEAD makes an Edge padel bag to match. Everything else is on padel rackets, and the guide to choosing a padel racket explains shape and balance.

Head Edge II Padel Racket, Black: questions people ask

Is the Head Edge II the same as the original Head Edge?

No. The Edge II is the later edition in HEAD's budget Edge line; this black version sits in the 2025 collection. We have not found a HEAD sheet comparing the two.

Is the Head Edge II a good padel racket for beginners?

Yes. It has a fibreglass face, a foam core and a balance that is not head-heavy, which together make a forgiving, controllable first racket.

Head Edge II or Head Evo Speed: which is better to start with?

The Evo Speed is lighter at 350 g with a softer foam, so it suits smaller players and those worried about their arm. The Edge II has a little more mass, listed at 360 to 375 g, for a steadier feel.

Is the Head Edge II teardrop or round?

Listings disagree. Padel Nuestro calls it a teardrop with a medium balance; Padelvo and one Decathlon listing call it round with a low balance. Either way it plays as a control racket.

How do I stop my Head Edge II from chipping?

Fit a protector strip on the top of the frame, avoid scraping it on the floor to pick up balls, and keep it in a cover in your bag.
