Varlion Bourne Prisma Carbon Soft Padel Racket (2025)

£231.38

The Varlion Bourne Prisma Carbon Soft padel racket is an advanced attacking diamond: a light 345 to 360 g carbon racket with a 20K Carrera face, an aerodynamic Prisma frame and a SOFTCOLOR EVA core, built for players who finish at the net and want a heavy smash from a light frame. Bourne is Varlion's diamond line.

Padelful scores power at 9, with control and manoeuvrability at 7.5 and sweet spot and rebound at 6.5. That is a high ceiling with a narrow, selective sweet spot. Sellers disagree on the balance wording and on the year label, and we explain both.

What the Bourne Prisma Carbon Soft is

Varlion names its rackets in parts, and the name tells you most of what you need. Bourne is the diamond line, Prisma is the aerodynamic tubular frame, and Carbon Soft is the face and core variant in this family. Padelful lists a bidirectional carbon tubular frame, a Carrera 20K carbon and fibreglass face and a 38 mm SOFTCOLOR EVA core it calls semi-hard.

Padelgids adds the details Varlion is proud of: a rough ErgoSlice texture for spin and slice, Ergoholes in a progressive layout to enlarge the sweet spot, a Wings Diffuser to channel air through the frame and a longer 14.5 cm Summum handle. Compare it with the other rackets on our Varlion padel rackets page.

How it plays: heavy finish, selective sweet spot

Padelful's review is a short list of attacker's virtues: stable, penetrating volleys, a heavy and direct smash and strong spin on the víbora. The shape and the upper-frame mass do the work, and a light 345 to 360 g weight keeps the swing fast.

The cons are the price. The sweet spot is high and selective, defence off the back wall is demanding and passive blocks have little ball exit. A rebound score of 6.5 tells you the frame does not give much back, so you supply the pace.

What the sources agree on, and what they do not

Padelful and Padelgids agree on the diamond shape, the 345 to 360 g weight and the Prisma frame. Padelgids and a Varlion snippet in search results give the balance as medium, while Padelful says the racket carries its mass in the upper frame without being heavily head-heavy. Our October research record also quotes a medium-high description from Padel Nuestro. The core is semi-hard on Padelful and hard-touch on Padelgids.

The year label wanders too. Padelful says 2025, Padelgids says 2026 and lists a 2025/2026 collection, and Varlion's own site banner talks about a 26/27 collection. We read it as the same racket in new colours. Level wording ranges from advanced to professional.

Bourne or another Varlion

If you want the same Prisma frame in a teardrop head, look at the Maxima Prisma Carbon Soft, or the damped Maxima Cube ElbowCare S. For a softer, lighter round frame, the LW Carbon Black Orquidea is the defensive pick. For a round frame with the Summum handle, the LW Carbon 3 Summum is the control choice, and the Maxima Carbon Rose is the teardrop alternative. Who should skip the Bourne Prisma Carbon Soft

Beginners, defenders and anyone who builds points from the baseline. Padelful's own cons are a high, selective sweet spot and demanding defence, and our intermediate padel rackets and beginner padel rackets pages show friendlier shapes.

Not for you if

You make a lot of off-centre contact, you defend more than you attack or you want comfort. Padelful gives sweet spot and rebound 6.5 and lists demanding defence as a con.

Setting it up

The long Summum handle takes a slightly different overgrip routine, so keep a spare from our padel grips range, and fit a racket protector to the frame. Use good padel balls, wear proper padel shoes and carry it in a padel bag.

For the basics of shape and weight, our guide to choosing a padel racket explains it, and the full padel racket range has the rest.
