Bas3line Vega 12K Aluminised Carbon Padel Racket

£240

The Bas3line Vega 12K Aluminised Carbon padel racket is a 345g teardrop with a neutral balance, made for the club player who attacks and defends in roughly equal measure and doesn't want a racket that leans either way.

It shares its shape and its 3K carbon frame with the Orion 12K, the other teardrop in Bas3line's Edge range. The two part company on three things: the Vega is 10g heavier, its weight sits in the middle rather than towards the handle, and its 12K face carries an aluminised finish over a different core.

The build, read off Bas3line's own sheet

Everything here comes from the brand's product page, because nobody else has reviewed this racket yet. Bas3line calls the head a "Hybrid teardrop", the same name it gives the Orion, so it belongs with the rest of our teardrop padel rackets rather than in the awkward "Hybrid Round" corner where the brand's Juno and Nebula sit.

The frame is 38mm, 3K carbon fibre in a double tubular build. The face is 12K carbon with an aluminised finish. The core is listed as EVA Soft Black 28 and, a line further down, as medium-density foam. Those two descriptions pull in slightly different directions, a soft name on a medium foam, and we've quoted both rather than guess which one the brand meant. Bas3line puts the weight at 345g with a 10g tolerance, which it says is 15 to 25g under the average padel racket, and it states the Vega is tournament compliant.

Vega against the Orion: one mould, two set-ups

If you've narrowed it to Bas3line and to a teardrop, this is the whole decision. The Orion is the lighter, head-light racket built for touch, quick volleys and players who are nursing an elbow. The Vega keeps the same head and frame, adds a little mass and moves the balance point up to the middle, which gives a bit more weight behind a bandeja or a flat drive without turning it into a smasher's racket. Brand-wide, the head-heavy Juno Attack is the one built to finish, and the Nebula Performance is the Vega's closest match on balance but in the rounder mould and with a 3K face.

About that aluminised face

Bas3line names the aluminised finish and then says nothing about what it does. It isn't alone. Nox uses the same idea on its "Alum" rackets, such as the Nox Future Hybrid 12K Alum, and adidas does on several of its carbon frames, and the marketing across all of them talks about stiffness, response and feel without a test anyone outside the brands can check. The Nox is a useful reference point for a different reason: it's also an even-balance 12K teardrop, but at 360 to 375g it's a much heavier racket than the Vega.

Our honest read: buy the Vega for its weight and balance, which you will feel on the first rally, and treat the coating as a finish rather than a reason.

Who should pick the Vega

Intermediate and stronger club players who split their time between the back glass and the net, and who find a head-light racket a touch flimsy on their drives. Bas3line describes it as its most versatile frame and names Sebastian Clelland, Marco Iurza and Victor Aguirre as players who use it. An all-court racket means a lot of sprinting from the glass to the net, so proper padel shoes with a herringbone sole earn their place too.

Not for you if

You've had arm trouble and want the gentlest racket the brand makes. The Orion is lighter, carries its weight nearer your hand and uses a softer-majority core, so it's the safer pick. And if you are new to the game, our beginner racket picks cost less and forgive more.

Kit to go with it

A fresh overgrip goes on before the first session; Bas3line's Edge Pro overgrip matches the racket, and the padel grip page compares the rest. A clear racket protector on the frame edge saves the carbon from the first scrape off the glass. For balls, the Edge Pro tube is the brand's competition ball and our padel ball page lists every other option. Still comparing brands? Bas3line Vega 12K Aluminised Carbon Padel Racket: questions people ask

Is the Bas3line Vega the same racket as the Orion 12K?

No. They share the teardrop head and the 3K carbon frame, but the Vega is 10g heavier, neutral rather than head-light, and has an aluminised 12K face over an EVA Soft Black 28 core.

What level of player is the Bas3line Vega for?

Intermediate and stronger club players who want one racket for attack and defence. Beginners will find cheaper, more forgiving options.

Should I choose the Bas3line Vega or the Nebula Performance?

Both are neutral. Pick the Vega for the teardrop head and the 12K aluminised face, or the Nebula if you prefer Bas3line's rounder Hybrid Round shape and a 335g frame.

How do I protect the aluminised face on the Bas3line Vega?

Keep it in a cover between matches, fit a frame protector to the top edge, and avoid leaving it in a hot car. Wipe sand off the face after outdoor sessions.

How much does the Bas3line Vega weigh?

Bas3line lists 345g with a 10g tolerance, the middle of its weight range and heavier than the 335g Orion and Nebula.
