Black Crown Special Max Padel Racket (2026)

£244.80

The Black Crown Special Max padel racket is the brand's top-of-range power teardrop for advanced players: an 18K aluminised carbon face with a unidirectional carbon layer over a Medium EVA Black core on a tubular carbon frame, listed at 355 to 370 g. Black Crown splits its play 60 per cent power and 40 per cent control.

Padelful scores it 8.5 overall, with power at 9.0 and a sweet spot of 8.6. The price is a firmer touch and slower hands, and the review notes defensive blocks need preparation.

Special Max review: smash power with a generous sweet spot

Padelful's scores read like a flagship attacker: power 9.0, control 8.6, rebound 8.6, sweet spot 8.6 and manoeuvrability 7.9, for 8.5 overall. The pros are heavy smash power, firm punchy volleys and a sweet spot that is bigger than the head shape suggests. Black Crown lists an extended sweet spot area as a feature of the face.

The cons come with the build. Defensive blocks need preparation, handling is not especially quick and the touch on delicate shots is firmer than on a soft-cored racket. This is a racket for a player who already hits clean and wants more finishing weight.

Bar chart of Padelful ratings for the Black Crown Special Max 2026: power 9.0, control 8.6, rebound 8.6, sweet spot 8.6, manoeuvrability 7.9 and overall 8.5

Special Max or Special Elite?

The two share a teardrop head, a carbon frame and a weight range of 355 to 370 g. The difference is the face and the core. The Max uses an 18K aluminised carbon face with a unidirectional layer over a Medium EVA Black core, while the Special Elite has a 3K face over a Soft EVA Black core. In Padelful's numbers the Max wins on power, 9.0 against 8.1, and the Elite wins on rebound, 9.0 against 8.6.

Choose the Max if you want to finish points and can accept a firmer feel. Choose the Elite if you want a livelier, more forgiving racket. A third listing, the Special Global, has the same published spec as the Max, so check its sheet before assuming a difference. For a harder-hitting diamond from another brand, see the Drop Shot Canyon Pro Attack 2.0.

Table comparing the Black Crown Special Max and Special Elite: face, core, feel, Padelful power and rebound scores, manoeuvrability and weight

Who should skip the Special Max

Beginners, intermediates still building technique and anyone with an arm that dislikes firm rackets. It asks for good preparation, and it will not forgive late contact the way a softer racket does. Newer players should look at the beginner padel rackets page, and stronger players can compare it on the advanced padel rackets and teardrop padel rackets pages.

Not for you if

You are still learning, you want quick handling or you want a soft touch on delicate shots. Manoeuvrability is 7.9 and the review lists a firmer touch.

Setting up a Special Max

Fit a racket protector first, since a hard hitter meets the glass, then a fresh overgrip from the padel grips range to help with the firm feel. Quality padel balls and good padel shoes matter for a racket that rewards early preparation, and a padel bag with a thermal pocket protects the face.

Black Crown Special Max Padel Racket (2026): questions people ask

Is the Black Crown Special Max the same as the Special Elite?

No. They are two rackets in the 2026 Special line. The Max has an 18K aluminised carbon face and a Medium EVA core, and the Elite has a 3K face and a Soft EVA core.

Is the Black Crown Special Max good for intermediate players?

It is aimed at advanced players. A strong intermediate who already attacks may enjoy it, but the firm touch and slower hands are not forgiving.

Is the Special Max round or teardrop?

Teardrop. Black Crown, Padelful and retailers all agree, which puts the sweet spot higher in the head than on a round racket.

Is the Special Max head heavy?

Padelful describes a head-leaning feel for attacking play. A retailer lists medium balance, and nobody publishes a figure in millimetres.

How heavy is the Black Crown Special Max?

Black Crown and Padelful give 355 to 370 g, and one shop says 360 to 370 g. Pick by feel in hand.

What is the Special Max frame made of?

Black Crown lists a 100 per cent carbon tubular frame. Padelful's page says carbon in its table and fibreglass in its review text, so we go with the brand.
