Head Gravity Team Padel Racket 2024

£86.22

The Head Gravity Team padel racket is the club version of Head's round control racket: the same shape and 265 mm balance as the Gravity Pro, on a softer fibreglass face, for intermediate players who win points by keeping the ball in play. Head says it is made for intermediate players who want to control the game.

Most club matches are lost on unforced errors rather than won on winners. This is a racket built around that fact.

What the Head Gravity Team padel racket does well

Keep the ball in, put it where you want it, and get back for the next one. That's the Gravity Team's job, and its specs line up behind it. A round 498 cm² head puts a big sweet spot in the middle of the face. Control Foam keeps the ball from flying long when you swing a little too hard. And the fibreglass face gives what Padelful describes as a medium-soft feel.

Head made the 2024 Gravity range lighter and lower in balance than the version before it, which helps the Team move around quickly at the net. Auxetic 2.0 in the frame is there for feel, and the Soft Butt Cap damps vibration at the handle.

Head Gravity Team review: the scores

Padelful's ratings are 8.8 for rebound, 8.6 for manoeuvrability, 8.4 for sweet spot, 8.2 for control and 6.3 for power, an overall 8.1. The rebound and handling scores are the surprise: the ball comes off the face lively at low speeds, which makes blocks and soft volleys easy, and the racket is quick to bring round.

Power is where it pays. A 6.3 means smashes rarely leave the court, and against hard-hitting opponents you will be relying on placement and patience. Padelful's one caveat is that you need to keep your technique consistent to get the best from it.

Gravity Team, Team Light or Gravity Pro?

The Gravity Pro uses the same 265 mm balance and round head at 365 g, but swaps the fibreglass face for Hybrid Woven carbon. Padelful scores the Pro higher for control (9.4) and power (7.3) and lower for rebound, which is the classic carbon trade: more precision, less free bounce. Advanced players will feel the difference; most club players won't need it.

Going lighter, the Gravity Team Light is 340 g with its balance at 270 mm, the better choice for smaller adults and players coming up from a junior racket. The Gravity Motion sits between them, lighter than the Team and fitted with Head's Spin Surface.

Where it sits among Head's rackets

Plot Head's rackets by Padelful's power and control scores and the Gravity Team lands clearly in the control half, well above the entry Evo Speed and Vibe for control, and well below the Speed Pro for power. If you want the same controlled feel with a teardrop's reach, the Radical Motion is the next step across.

Who should look elsewhere

Players who finish points overhead, and anyone who wants the racket to add pace. The Gravity Team is honest about what it is: a control frame with very little free power. Our intermediate padel rackets page covers teardrops that add a bit more bite.

Not for you if

You play on the left and finish with the smash, or you already hit hard and want more depth for free. A 6.3 power score means you supply the pace. A teardrop from the teardrop padel rackets range, or the Speed family, suits that game better.

Grip, tape, balls and bag

Wrap a fresh overgrip such as a Head Prime Tour three-pack; the padel grips page explains thickness. A strip of tape from the racket protector range saves a round rim from the glass, which it meets a lot on low defensive balls.

For balls, the padel balls page explains why a firmer ball suits cold courts. A padel racket cover keeps it out of the heat in the car, a bag from the padel bag range carries the rest, and padel shoes built for sand-filled turf help on the long defensive rallies this racket invites.

Comparing round rackets? The control padel rackets page lines them up, cheap padel rackets covers the budget band, and the full padel racket range is there too. Our guide to choosing a padel racket explains shape and balance.

Head Gravity Team Padel Racket 2024: questions people ask

Is the Head Gravity Team the same as the Gravity Pro?

They share a round head and a 265 mm balance, but the Gravity Team is 360 g with a fibreglass face, while the Gravity Pro is 365 g with a Hybrid Woven carbon face. The Pro is more precise and more powerful; the Team is livelier and softer.

What level is the Head Gravity Team padel racket for?

Intermediate, by Head's own label, and particularly club players who win with consistency. Confident beginners can use it too; lighter players and newcomers may prefer the 340 g Gravity Team Light.

Head Gravity Team or Gravity Team Light?

The Team is 360 g with a 265 mm balance and a 498 cm² head; the Team Light is 340 g at 270 mm with a 490 cm² head. Choose the Team for more stability against hard balls, the Light for an easier swing.

How long will a Head Gravity Team last?

Played weekly, a fibreglass racket on Control Foam usually gives a season or two before it loses some of its response. Taping the rim, storing it in a cover and keeping it away from heat all help.

What is the balance of the Head Gravity Team?

265 mm from the butt, according to Padel Kiwi and e-tennis's listings. One shop's spec row calls it head-heavy, but Head's own copy says the 2024 model has a lower balance than before, and 265 mm is a controlled, manoeuvrable figure.

Does the Head Gravity Team have much power?

Not much: Padelful scores it 6.3 for power. It is a control racket, so you supply the pace. If you want more help on the smash, a teardrop such as the Radical Motion or the Speed family suits you better.
