Head Speed Junior Padel Racket 2025

£57.79

The Head Speed Junior padel racket is a 310 g teardrop for children who have outgrown a first round racket: a fibreglass face, a Power Foam core and a medium balance, built for juniors who are starting to play proper rallies and want something that helps them hit deep.

HEAD describes it as the racket for ambitious juniors on their way to a full-size frame. In our fitting guide it suits most children of about 8 to 12, depending on height and how hard they already swing.

Which child the Speed Junior is for

HEAD doesn't print an age on this racket, so we fit by height and swing. Our guide puts 310 g rackets with children of about 125 to 140 cm, which for most is roughly 8 to 10, and the Speed Junior stretches a little older for smaller or newer players. A child under 125 cm will usually do better with the 300 g round Head Monster Junior, which has a thinner 33 mm frame and a softer core.

The real test is the swing. If your child can take the racket back and through without the head dropping, and can hold a short rally, 310 g is right. If the wrist bends on contact, go lighter. The kids padel racket page has the full size chart and every junior racket we sell. If you'd rather a round, soft beginner racket, the Joma Game Junior is heavier at 330 to 340 g.

Why a teardrop at this age

Most first junior rackets are round, because a round head keeps the sweet spot low and central and forgives a child who is still learning to meet the ball. The Speed Junior is the next step. Its teardrop head moves the sweet spot slightly higher, which rewards a proper swing on drives and lobs, and the Power Foam core gives more ball speed than the soft foams in HEAD's youngest rackets.

The fibreglass face stays forgiving and kind to young arms, and the medium balance means it doesn't feel top-heavy at the net. HEAD's own description stresses depth without strain: easy power from a short swing, so a child can push the ball to the back glass without forcing it.

HEAD's junior rackets, step by step

HEAD's junior range is easiest to read as a ladder. The Monster Junior is for the youngest. The Speed Junior comes next. Beyond it, the Coello Junior 2026 carries Arturo Coello's name at the same 310 g, with an oversize 525 cm² teardrop head, and last season's Coello Junior 2025 is the same idea. When a teenager is ready for an adult frame, a light 350 g starter such as the Head Evo Speed is the natural move.

When to choose something else

If your child is small for their age, plays only occasionally or still struggles to make contact, a lighter round racket such as Babolat's Alioth Junior will build confidence faster. And a teenager who is already as tall as an adult and hitting hard will find 310 g too light and should move up to a light adult racket from best padel racket for beginners.

Not for you if

Your child is under about 125 cm, is in their first few sessions, or is already adult-sized and hitting hard. A 300 g round junior or a light adult racket will fit better.

Junior kit to go with it

Small hands still need a grip that doesn't slip; a soft overgrip such as the HEAD Xtreme Soft three-pack helps, and padel grips explains the options. Tape the top of the frame from the racket protector range, because junior rackets meet the floor and the glass more than most.

A steady club ball such as the Head Padel One tube keeps rallies going, and padel balls has more. Court shoes matter at any age: the Head Kids Revolt Pro 4.0 is made for padel, and padel shoes has the rest. A small bag from padel bags finishes the set. The full range is on padel rackets, and the guide to choosing a padel racket explains shape and weight.

Head Speed Junior Padel Racket 2025: questions people ask

Is the Head Speed Junior the same as the adult Head Speed rackets?

No. It shares the Speed name and teardrop shape, but at 310 g it is 35 to 65 g lighter than HEAD's adult Speed rackets and is built for children moving towards a full-size frame.

What age is the Head Speed Junior for?

HEAD does not publish an age range. Our fitting guide puts 310 g teardrops with children of roughly 8 to 12 and 125 to 140 cm tall, depending on strength and how often they play.

Head Speed Junior or Head Monster Junior: which should I buy?

The Monster Junior is a 300 g round racket with a low balance for younger, smaller children. The Speed Junior is a 310 g teardrop with Power Foam for juniors who already rally and want more pace.

How heavy is the Head Speed Junior?

HEAD lists 310 g. Like most rackets it will vary a few grams either way, and an overgrip adds about 5 g.

How do I make a junior padel racket last?

Tape the top of the frame, keep it in a cover, and teach your child not to scrape it along the floor to pick up balls. Store it out of hot cars, which soften the foam.
