Head Speed Motion 2023 Padel Racket

£86.29

The Head Speed Motion 2023 padel racket is the previous generation of HEAD's quick all-round teardrop: 360 g, a woven carbon and fibreglass face over Power Foam, for intermediate and advanced players who want a fast, versatile racket and don't mind it being two seasons old.

The interesting part is how little the newer one changed. Padelful scores the 2023 and 2025 versions within 0.2 of each other on every measure, and the 2023 actually comes out a fraction ahead overall.

Two seasons on, almost nothing to choose

Put Padelful's two reviews side by side and the numbers barely move. Power is 7.3 on both, manoeuvrability 9.1 on both. The 2023 is 0.2 ahead on control and 0.1 on rebound; the Speed Motion 2025 is 0.2 ahead on sweet spot. Overall the 2023 gets 8.5 and the 2025 gets 8.4. Those are differences a tester notices on paper, not ones you'd notice in a club match.

On the spec sheet the changes are small too. HEAD trimmed 5 g for 2025 and moved from the smooth face listed for 2023 to a textured one. The woven carbon and fibreglass face and the Power Foam core carried straight over.

Chart of Padelful scores for the Head Speed Motion 2023 against the 2025 model: power 7.3 and manoeuvrability 9.1 on both, rebound 8.9 v 8.8, control 8.6 v 8.4, sweet spot 8.4 v 8.6

How the Speed Motion 2023 plays

This was the lightest racket in HEAD's 2023 Speed range, and it still feels like it. With a manoeuvrability score of 9.1 it's quick at the net, easy to bring up for a reflex volley and forgiving enough on defence to keep the ball in play from the glass. Padelful rates the feel as medium: firmer than a fibreglass racket, softer than full carbon.

Power is its modest score. A flat smash needs a proper swing, and players who live on putting the ball out of the court will want something heavier. The smooth face matters too: without the grit of HEAD's newer textured faces, spin comes more from your technique than the surface.

Specs, and the balance question

HEAD's sheet as Tennis Nuts lists it gives 360 g with a 10 g tolerance, a 465 cm² head, a 38 mm profile and a medium, even balance. Other listings give a 270 mm, head-heavy balance point, which is the figure HEAD publishes for the 2025 model. We've shown both. Some retailers also sold it with Ari Sánchez's name on it; she played HEAD until early 2026 and now plays adidas.

When to buy something else

If you want the newest colours or a textured face for spin, buy the 2025. If you're in your first months of padel, a carbon-faced racket is more than you need; start with something from best padel racket for beginners. And if your game is all about the smash, the extra weight of the Speed Pro or a diamond from diamond padel rackets will serve you better.

Not for you if

You need the current model year, you rely on spin from a rough face, or you finish points with heavy smashes. Padelful also notes it may not be the ideal choice for a novice.

Getting it court-ready

Start with a fresh overgrip; HEAD's Padel Pro three-pack is thin and tacky, and padel grips lists drier options. A strip from the racket protector range on the top of the frame helps a two-season-old racket keep its paint. The Head Pro S+ tube is HEAD's ball for cold UK courts; padel balls compares the rest.

Carry it in a Head Tour L bag, with more choice on padel bags and padel shoes. Other discounted rackets from earlier seasons, such as Kelme's all-carbon Coyote 2025, are on padel racket sale and cheap padel rackets, the full range is under padel rackets, and the guide to choosing a padel racket explains shape and balance.

Head Speed Motion 2023 Padel Racket: questions people ask

Is the Head Speed Motion 2023 the same racket as the 2025?

Not quite. The 2023 is 360 g with a smooth face; the 2025 is 355 g with a textured face. The face material and Power Foam core are the same, and Padelful scores the two within 0.2 of each other everywhere.

Is the Head Speed Motion 2023 good for intermediate players?

Yes. It is quick and forgiving, with Padelful scores of 9.1 for manoeuvrability and 8.4 for sweet spot. Padelful notes it may not suit a complete novice.

Head Speed Motion 2023 or Speed Pro X 2023: which should I buy?

The Speed Motion is the light all-rounder at 360 g with a woven carbon and fibreglass face. The Speed Pro X is the heaviest Speed at 375 g with a 12K carbon face, built for power. Choose the Motion for speed and the Pro X for punch.

How heavy is the Head Speed Motion 2023?

HEAD lists 360 g with a 10 g tolerance, so between 350 and 370 g from the box. Its head measures 465 cm².

Will a 2023 padel racket still play well?

No maker publishes how foam ages in storage, but a racket kept out of heat and away from knocks should play as designed. Keep it out of hot cars and use protector tape on the frame.
